Bringing It All Together

Today, being a stylish groom goes beyond the suit or tux itself; it has a lot to do with what’s worn underneath the jacket. Yes, the key to pulling your look together is really all about the choice of ties, vests, cufflinks and even cummerbunds. (Hey, if Justin Timberlake is wearing one, maybe you should be, too!)

For a long time, men were choosing the black suit with a small collar and skinny black tie. As that look becomes more tired and more couples are choosing classic wedding themes, the popularity of tuxes continues to grow.

bow tie

When looking for what to pair with their tux, many men are turning to the ever-so-charming bow tie. Bow ties are often synonymous with black-tie affairs – and for good reason. A black bow tie paired with a black tuxedo creates a very regal look, perfect for traditional church weddings or more modern affairs. For another spin on the classic look, a groom might opt to pair a classic tie with his tux, which creates a more casual – yet still elegant – wedding look.

vests

Vests are another great way to personalize your suit. Notably, they come in a variety of styles – ranging from a plain weave, stripes and geometrics to floral, paisley, herringbone and basket weave patterns. Vests may include a variety of lapels, including a notched collar or a shawl collar; they also come in an assortment of colors. It is important to still look put-together when you take the jacket off. Therefore, a continuing trend for grooms is the full black vest. The popular six-button vest features a full cut back and higher front, making for a stylish photograph with or without the jacket.

cuff links

Cuff links are tiny flourishes that can make a big statement. You can go with a classic silver square, or again take an opportunity to express yourself. Many jewelers will custom design cuff links to your personal tastes, or you can look around for ones that suit your style.

shoes

And above all, don’t forget a pair of stylish – and comfortable – shoes! If you’re wearing a tuxedo, you’ll need a simple yet elegant patent leather shoe.

When all is said and done, be sure to have fun with accessories. Choosing the right ones can turn a nice suit into a great ensemble & you’ll have fun piecing together your look on the way there!
