Fall Engagement Photos

Engagement photos are such a fun experience where you get to enjoy being engaged, take a step back from wedding planning duties, and make lifelong memories with your fiance. Plus, you’ll end up with gorgeous, professional photos of you and your future spouse!

Engagement sessions are included in your wedding photography package quite often. This gives your photographer an opportunity to learn a bit more about you and find out what poses work best. It allows you to become comfortable in front of the camera and get acquainted with your photographer – who will be spending the majority of your wedding day right by your side.

Schedule your engagement session about 8-12 months before your wedding so that it doesn’t interfere with any wedding planning appointments or duties. This also gives you enough time to get your photos back and use them for your save-the-dates, guestbook, bridal shower decor, and more!

Fall is a gorgeous time of year. The sun is at a great angle for photos, the changing leaves make for a gorgeous backdrop, and there are so many fun fall activities you can do that will result in raw and candid photos. For instance, you can bring your photographer to a corn maze, on a hay-bale ride, to a pumpkin patch, or picking apples. Plus, who doesn’t get all warm and fuzzy inside just looking at flannel blankets, fuzzy socks, and pumpkin spice lattes? It’s the perfect reason to cuddle up with your fiance…which also makes for the perfect engagement photo!

If you do plan your engagement session for the fall, take advantage of the scenery and autumnal activities! Check out some of our favorite locations, poses, and attire for this season below.

We’re not sure what it is about covered bridges, but they just give off an autumnal vibe. Is it just us? Plus, there are so many gorgeous structures in Northeast Ohio to visit, and they are usually adorable small towns in the vicinity.

A cute photo of you cuddling with a cozy blanket is a must for fall engagement photos. Serving double-duty, you can then put it on the ground for any sitting or lying down photos to keep your clothes clean and dry!

Football Jerseys

Fall = football. Get in the team spirit by sporting your favorite team’s jersey. Bonus: Cleveland Browns colors are very fall-appropriate.

Puffy Vests

As soon as the weather drops below 50, Northeast Ohio girls break out their vests and boots. It’s a classic look that not only keeps you warm but looks stylish, too! Years after you’re married, you’ll look back at these photos and know it was fall just by your outfit.

Warm Sweaters

Oversized, knitted, cashmere, or cardigan – we don’t discriminate! We love all sweaters, and feeling looking all comfy and cozy is the perfect start to feeling natural in front of a camera…and looking good while you’re at it!

Whether it’s a cliche or not, we’re not too proud to admit that we still love plaid in the fall. It’s a classic!

poses

Typically, the couple doesn’t take much part in the posing, as it is organized and directed by the photographer. When it comes to fall session, though, you may have a few photos in mind that you’d like to recreate! Don’t be afraid to mention or share them with your photographer.

Use Props

Covering up the camera while you kiss is a common engagement shoot pose, made even more adorable when the cover is a fallen leaf. Want to take this photo up a notch? Write your wedding date on the leaf in a calligraphy script and use this photo for your save-the-date!

Save-the-Date

Speaking of save-the-dates, you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity to use a professional, quality photo to announce your wedding date! Whether you share it on social media or have it printed and mailed, we’re in favor of getting creative. Carve your date into a pumpkin, have a barista sculpt it into the foam of a pumpkin spice latte, or write it on leaves, as seen above.

Showcase your Ring

Showcasing your engagement ring is a must. Luckily, there are a ton of adorable ways to do it in the fall! Holding a pumpkin, like in the photo above, or cupping your hands around a steaming mug of hot chocolate are just two of our favorites.

Have Fun!

Don’t take your posing too seriously! Have your photographer capture candids of you playing hide-and-seek in a cornfield or jumping into a pile of leaves! This shoot should serve as an escape from your wedding planning woes. Enjoy the fall weather and just have fun with your fiance!

The majority of the pictures of you and your fiance together are probably selfies or vacation shots taken by friends or family. Engagement photo shoots are a great way to have professional photos taken. You can use them for multiple wedding projects, blow them up on canvas and hang them on your wall, or just create a beautiful scrapbook to look through. No matter what you decide to do with these photos, they’ll be a beautiful representation of your relationship and love.
