Today's Bride

Blockbuster Movie-Inspired Wedding Cakes

From times of old to futuristic worlds, daring battles to magical lands, we can’t help but be smitten with the love stories found in classic, blockbuster films! We asked local bake shops to design and create custom cakes inspired by their favorite blockbuster hits, and we weren’t disappointed!

When scrolling through this gallery, it’s pretty clear that Akron/Canton’s best bakeries are just as in love with classic films as we are. Every detail – from the Tin Man’s heart to Hermione’s wand – took so much time, patience, and talent to create. We hope their amazing skills come through the draping, piping, sculpting, and hand-painting displayed in each of these cakes and inspires your own love story.

This out-of-this-world Star Wars cake is taking us to a galaxy far, far away! We are sure that the beloved Princess Leia and Han Solo – the OG star-crossed lovers – would approve of it with their silhouettes and famous declaration of “I love you. I know.” *Swoons* Also because a marriage is always on the light side, Luke’s famous blue light saber is the perfect topper. And, wait, what is that at the bottom? That’s no moon, that’s the ever famous death star having to make an appearance as well to make this cake the ultimate Star Wars lover’s dream.

If you don’t still shed a tear every time you read “After all this time?” “Always.” then we can’t be friends. The unrequited love between Lily Potter and Severus Snape may be the greatest love story of all time – don’t fight us on this – and we love that this underlying storyline got to shine in this cake design. Featuring details from the Marauder’s Map, the Deathly Hallows, the Snitch, and Snape and Lily’s patronuses, no detail was overlooked. It’s even topped with a replica of Hogwarts and adorned with the main characters’ wands on the back – including Hermione’s, the Elder Wand, and Volde-I mean, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Buehler’s fresh foods – grease

We all secretly wish we had lived in the 50s – the age of poodle skirts, diners, and jukeboxes. Plus, who doesn’t fall for a great “bad boy meets good girl and changes his ways” story? Every girl wishes she was dating Danny Zuko. And combining Sandra Dee’s innocent poodle skirt with a hard-core leather jacket to reflect her sexy transformation at the end? Genius! Just like the carnival at the end of the movie, this cake makes us forget all the hardships Danny and Sandy went through to be together and simply makes us want to dance!

Since Holly’s engagement to Paul isn’t her first, we don’t think she’d want a traditional white wedding cake. She’d probably want to pay homage to her favorite place – Tiffany’s! – by having a Tiffany blue cake! And with a wardrobe consisting of tassel earplugs, fashionable hats, and little black dresses, we’re sure this cake would reflect her personal style with lots of pearls, bling, and even a tiara! Now our only question is, do you think Cat would be the ring bearer?

Reeves cake shop – wizard of Oz

Much like Dorothy’s transportation to The Land of Oz, love can be a whirlwind! It takes a lot of heart and courage, and you may learn a thing or two along the way! Whether her journey really happened or was all just a dream, the lessons she learned and friendships she made along the way stuck with her throughout her life! When she finally found someone to marry, we’re sure her wedding cake would include artifacts to remind her of these meaningful relationships, like the ruby red shoes, yellow brick road, field of posies, and Emerald City.

Tiffany’s Bakery – The Notebook

One of the most epic movie love stories of all time, Noah’s neverending love for Allie is what we all base our relationships on, am I right? Based off of Noah’s proclamation of love – “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird” – this cake reflects these lovebirds, from the cuddling cake toppers to the “swans” from the canoe scene at the bottom (which even has the book Noah used to tell Allie their love story!) A soft ombre color scheme, delicate piping, and sentimental quotes make this Notebook-inspired wedding cake as timeless and everlasting as Noah and Allie’s love.

If any movie love story could compete with Snape and Lily’s or Noah and Allie’s, it’s Jack and Rose’s. We can’t help but wonder, what if there had been room on the door for Jack? What if Rose hadn’t let go? They surely would’ve gotten married and – though they may not have had much money for an extravagant wedding – we think they would’ve wanted to recognize the very thing that brought them together – Titanic. Their cake would reflect it’s opulence and luxury with gold stenciling, ornate piping, and a little bit of bling.

Though all of these fictional love stories have a hold on our hearts, the best love story of all is your own! The talent and skill displayed in these creative cake designs show just how local cake artists can make your story just as sweet!
