Wearing Glasses on Your Wedding Day
When it comes to their wedding day, every bride wants to look her best. Why some brides think that means they need to ditch the glasses and opt for contacts instead, we’ll never know! Our definition of beauty is to be true to yourself, and if that means your frames will be a wedding day accessory, then we’ve got some tips on how to rock your look!
As a girl who’s worn glasses since the fourth grade, I know how hard it can be to make your glasses feel like part of your ensemble rather than an interfering necessity. Here’s my advice when choosing frames to wear on your wedding day!
Buy “Special Occasion” Glasses
Purchased specifically for your wedding day, these glasses will always hold a special place in your heart. You can match the color with your bridesmaids’ dresses, buy a pair that boasts some bling, or invest in some that reflect the style of your wedding – like retro or bohemian.
Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event! Take the opportunity to rock those cat eye frames you fell in love with or the big square frames that you always wondered if you could pull off!
That being said, it’s okay to stick with what you know, too. If you’d prefer your dress be a statement piece, are worried you won’t feel like yourself, or a special pair of frames won’t look right in pictures, don’t feel pressured into buying new frames! The glasses you wear everyday are a reflection of your personality and who you are as an individual. Your beauty will shine through whether you don fancy or classic frames.
Choose Lenses that are Anti-Glare
The worst part about wearing glasses on your wedding day is the fact that you can always see the reflection of the sun or the camera flash in the photos. Speaking from experience, that can ruin a completely gorgeous photo, and – trust me on this one – you won’t want to miss the look in your eyes because the sun’s glare is covering them up. The extra money spent in investing in anti-glare lenses is 100% worth it for beautiful, lifelong treasured mementos.
Take your Glasses Shopping
Once you’ve chosen your frames, make sure you take them with you when you’re shopping. As odd as it sounds, some dresses and glasses just won’t look right together. If the top of the gown is busy with flowers, beading, lace, or bows, ostentatious glasses won’t look right. It’s all about the balance, so make sure to find a dress that complements your frames.
Consider Nixing the Veil
We’re not saying that this is a must in every bride’s situation, but sometimes a veil can overpower glasses and completely cover your face. There are times when a simple birdcage or a long veil attached under your hairdo will add a traditional and elegant touch to your ensemble, but for the most part, we advise that you stick with hair pieces and flower crowns if you’re wearing glasses on your wedding day.
Bring a Backup Pair
If you’ve been wearing glasses all your life like I have, you probably already carry an emergency backup pair with you, but this is an extremely important step on your wedding day. With all the little details you’re trying to manage and remember, this one thing can often get lost in the chaos, but having an extra set just in case will ease some anxiety and will save the day if anything goes wrong.
Makeup
We all know that the right makeup application can add that perfect touch to any bride’s look, but it’s especially important for bespectacled brides. Makeup artists know exactly what products to use to make your eyes pop, how thickly they should apply your eyeliner to complement – and not conflict with – the thickness of your frames, and they can add that perfect amount of sparkle to make your eyes stand out yet keep you looking natural. Applying white eyeliner on your lower waterline will reflect light into your pupil to make your eyes shine, and red lips can make a statement that draws attention to your face.
If you’re a glasses-wearing bride, it doesn’t matter whether you decide to try contacts or stay true to your lifelong accessory. Either way, you’ll be gorgeous as you walk down that aisle to the love of your life. As long as you stay true to your sense of style and feel comfortable, you’ll be radiant the entire day through.
