Alternatives to the Traditional Wedding Dress
Brides are embracing their personal sense of style when it comes to their wedding day fashion. Though we predict the traditional white gown will always hold its place, let’s talk about some of the other trends hitting the wedding aisle this year.
The tradition of wearing a white gown on your wedding day is actually a pretty recent one. Before Queen Victoria, brides typically wore more colorful gowns symbolizing their joy and celebration. As queen, though, Victoria was a trendsetter of her age, so when she wore white on her wedding day, the entire world followed suit.
In modern day, though, brides have begun to break from that tradition. By adding a splash of color, a fun adornment or detail, altering their dress to fit their style, or even forgoing a dress altogether and opting for a more comfortable outfit, wedding day fashion has taken on some new and fresh trends!
Color
Whether you decide to wear a full color gown or opt for just a splash of color, this trend has been taking over the wedding world. Brides are swooning over this trend, and we can’t say we blame them! Color is the perfect way to add a little interest to your wedding attire.
Stylish Separates
Gone are the days of having to choose just one dress. This year’s brides have been introducing separates to the wedding scene, and we’re completely on board with this growing trend! Pairing a crop top with a hip-hugging skirt or keeping it casual with a funky tulle skirt will reflect your personality in your wedding day attire while also maintaining an elegant and formal look.
Fun Alterations
Alterations can be a pain in the butt. Today’s brides, though, are all about having one-of-a-kind pieces and custom-made gowns. Adding sleeves, a detachable skirt, or even creating an original silhouette (like the stunning high-low above) can create the dream look you want – sexy, funky, bohemian, whimsical – and be uniquely you!
Pantsuit or Jumpsuit
Let’s face it, not all of us love to wear dresses. If the last time you wore a dress was your first communion and you dread having to choose one to wear down the aisle, don’t fret! There are lots of options for brides today when it comes to choosing your wedding outfit. This day is all about YOU, so wear what makes you comfortable! If that’s pants instead of a dress, who cares if you’re breaking tradition?
