Textured Cakes and Flowers

One of the benefits of being a local wedding resource is that we work closely with local businesses! When we print our magazine, we ask Northeast Ohio bakeries and florists to put their skills to the test and showcase their talents by incorporating the latest trends.

In 2019, we gave the theme “texture,” as it can easily be applied to any wedding! From there, the bakers and florists were given free reign to express their creativity. A special thanks goes out to LMAC Photography and Tracy Heck Photography for setting up some amazing photo shoots. These gorgeous photos were captured by their expert eye. Check out the incredibly inspiring designs they came up with!

Cakes by Local Bakeries

Large or small, texture is one design element that can be incorporated into any wedding cake. From ruffles to feathers, hand-piping to hand-painting, and buttercream to fondant, the possibilities are endless! In the cakes below, you’ll see some of the latest trends in wedding cakes, like Classic Blue – Pantone’s color of the year – and fault lines. We love how some bakeries chose buttercream while others went with fondant. Each cake has a completely different style and theme!

Which trends from these photo shoots will you incorporate into your wedding cake designs?

Flowers by Local Florists

Your bouquet is the ultimate bridal accessory. Play with color, asymmetry, height, and texture to make it truly one-of-a-kind. While some flowers never go out of style – like roses, ranunculus, hydrangea, and lilies – we’re seeing an influx of some less-popular stems in these bouquets! Anemones and poppies add diversity to a minimalist bouquet, and both scabiosa flowers and their pods are seen in multiple arrangements. Replace succulents with celosia and thistle for an updated look, and consider adding fake feathers, wheat, or pampas grass!

Use these as inspiration when you talk with your florist on design ideas! Which flowers are your favorite?
