Best Places to Propose in Northeast Ohio
Check out some of the most romantic spots around Northeast Ohio to pop the question.
Under the Chandelier
The Playhouse Square Chandelier is one of the most unique parts of Cleveland. It’s the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. Cleveland’s theater district is actually the largest performing arts district after New York City. Make an entire day out of it by getting drinks and dinner, then catching a play. Your partner will think it’s just a lovely date night until you pop the question, and your lives change forever!
Botanical Gardens
Spring is finally upon us! There are local botanical gardens and greenhouses all over Northeast Ohio, but Mohican Gardens is one of the more popular ones. Take a moment to smell the flowers – literally! – before proposing. Not only will you enjoy taking a stroll through beautiful and exotic flowers and plants, but they’ll be a beautiful backdrop as you present a ring! Then, you can buy a plant to honor the occasion or buy a bouquet of your favorite flowers from the visit for your anniversary each year.
Terminal Tower Observation Deck
If you’ve never been to the Terminal Tower Observation Deck, this is a must! You may feel like a tourist, but in the best way. You’ll never get to see Cleveland like this in any other way. It offers incredible views of the skyline and Lake Erie and is a beautiful spot to propose. Just be sure to buy a ticket in advance! They’re only $5, but because the deck is only open on the weekends, ticket sales are entirely online and sell out quickly.
OHIO WINERIES
These locations—The Lodge at Geneva-On-The-Lake, Ashtabula, Ohio River Valley, and Gervasi Vineyard—are wonderful for a proposal due to their scenic vineyards and romantic ambiance. Whether it’s the rolling hills of Geneva and Ashtabula, the diverse wineries along the Ohio River, or the elegant charm of Gervasi Vineyard, each spot offers a beautiful setting amidst nature and the sophistication of wineries, creating an ideal backdrop for a memorable proposal.
McKinley National Monument
While these steps are in Canton, not Philadelphia, you’ll feel like Rocky after running up them! After an adrenaline rush like that, you’ll feel confident enough to pop the question. The monument itself is beautiful, but when you’re standing at the top looking down, you’ll have a beautiful view of the hill, pond, and trees. Then you can visit the museum and library to learn more about President McKinley and stop by Canton’s Art District for unique shops and restaurants.
Squire’s Castle
Did you know there are actually several castles around Northeast Ohio? Most brides hope to feel like a princess on their wedding day, but they can feel like a princess during the proposal, too! Visit Squire’s castle in Willoughby Hills, Glamorgan Castle in Alliance, Landoll’s Mohican Castle in Loudonville, or Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron. Not only are they beautiful to behold and propose in front of, but most have artifacts inside to view, too.
Mill’s Creek Park
Mill’s Creek Park, located in Youngstown, is one of the first parks in Ohio! Walking around, you’ll see covered bridges, beautiful gardens, and the Lanterman’s Mill. You can camp, hike, bike, or go boating, play golf or tennis, or have a romantic picnic to divert suspicion. Then visit the Lanterman’s Mill to see a working mill and browse the gift shop to find the perfect gift to mark this occasion.
Your Home
Not really one to seek out attention? A public proposal may not be right for you or your partner! This is a big moment, so it’s important to be comfortable and confident. Proposing at home is special and intimate and allows you to react without having to hold back. You can prepare a home-cooked meal, watch a movie, enjoy a quiet night in, or invite over your closest family and friends!
There are, of course, many other spots around Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown to propose. Choose your favorite restaurant, the place you met, or a new hotspot you’ve been dying to try, and consider hiring a professional photographer to capture the moment. Trust us, when you pop the question and they see that gorgeous engagement ring, everything around you will disappear anyway.
