Hair 101: A Guide for Your Locks to Look Their Best
When it comes to hair styling for your wedding, the first piece of advice may be the best: “Don’t try this at home or by yourself.” Find an able or reputable hairstylist well in advance—if you don’t already have one—and get on his or her calendar weeks before the wedding.
Cutting your hair just a few days before the wedding is cutting it too close. The same is true for coloring and even for choosing a style. What looks good in a magazine, on Pinterest or your favorite celebrity may look good on you, or it may not. Start early and try out a few styles in advance. The more comfortable you are with your choice, the more relaxed you will be, adding to your wedding day glow.
Whether you have unruly curls or pin-straight hair, a short bob or long locks, pictured below are three styles that can accommodate all lengths and textures.
1. An Up-Do for Your I-Do
Probably the most popular choice currently, this elegant style keeps your locks secure and out of the way. A little too tight on the pull-back may lead to tension headaches, so tell your stylist to go easy and then hold your head high!
2. Half-Up-Half-Down: The Perfect Compromise
Another popular choice. This style shows more of your radiant face by pulling some hair back, while still framing your look.
3. Long & Lovely
Show off your tresses! While it may require more care, you’ve worked hard to grow your hair out, and it’s time to show it off.
Most brides wisely avoid a style that is so extravagant, so unlike them, that they are not recognizable. Additionally, knowing the answers to the following questions about what supplies you will need and what you will need to do as the day approaches is very important. When to wash? What sprays, conditioners or gels to use, if any, and when? Clips, braids, bobby pins? To blow-dry or not?
In the end, you’re going to look beautiful no matter what so choose a look that makes you feel most comfortable.
