Keeping It Classic: Wedding Cakes Receive a Slightly Understated Makeover
It’s official: The classic wedding cake is on the rise. While it’s safe to say its quirky counterparts are still popular, couples are beginning to take a turn for the more refined as they make their cake selections. Or rather, refined with a twist.
What exactly does that twist entail? Although many brides and grooms are loving the classic white wedding cake, they’ve also given it a bit of a makeover in the shape department. For example, instead of just opting for an entirely round or square cake, some couples are choosing cakes that incorporate both round and square (or octagon or hexagon …) layers.
Your baker might also be able to add dimension to these classic creations through the use of double height tiers. You’ve probably seen several different versions of these cakes on Pinterest and in bridal magazines – essentially they just involve incorporating one or two layers that are larger than the other layers of the cake. This adds a bit of visual interest to an all-white or primarily white wedding cake.
Just remember: If you and your fiancé consider yourselves a classic couple, a white wedding cake with a unique shape can be the perfect way to express that while also dipping your toes into the trendy pool. Voilà, compromise at its finest!
