Tips for Creating Your Wedding Guest List
When it comes to your wedding, few things are as important as figuring out your guest list. After all, the number of guests affects everything from your budget to your venue choice, so it’s important to have an approximate headcount early on.
Deciding who makes the cut can be very difficult. We’re hoping that by using the tips below you’ll get the selection process down to a science.
- Before creating a master guest list, you and your fiance should make a list. This is in addition to both sets of parents making one. Compile these lists and work together to create a final list that stays within your max. guest count and budget.
- If you haven’t sat down together over the past two years, don’t feel obligated to invite them.
- Remember that a plus-one is a must for anyone who is married, engaged or in a long-term relationship. No exceptions! A plus-one is also thoughtful for anyone who is single. However, if someone is single and will be among friends or family, it’s acceptable not to extend a plus-one.
- It’s helpful to have an “A-list” and a “B list.” Send your first round of save-the-dates to your “A-list” only. As those guests inform you they can’t make it, extend a save-the-date/invitation to a “B list” guest. Remember: You can never take back a save-the-date once it’s been sent.
- Overall, the easiest way to cut wedding costs is to cut down your guest list – you’ll save on everything from catering costs to invitations and favors to even the number of centerpieces. If you and your fiancé are on a tight budget, consider having a few extra rules (i.e. an Adults-only wedding or no co-workers allowed) in place to help make ends meet.
Happy guest list-crafting!
