12 Date Night Ideas for the New Year

Wedding planning can get extremely stressful and overwhelming. Oftentimes, you forget that it’s meant to celebrate the love you’ve found with your fiance! So you don’t forget to spend time with each other this new year, we’ve come up with some great date night ideas for each month of 2017!

Go tobogganing or tubing! You’ll have to keep your eye out for a day that has snow but isn’t bitterly cold, but there’s no better winter activity than sledding. Afterward, you can grab a dinner at the ski lodge, or stop for hot cocoa by the warm fire.

Spend the weekend away at a charming Bed & Breakfast. Donna’s Premier Lodging or Landoll’s Mohican Castle are two incredible options that are close to home, yet feel secluded. You’ll have lots of time to reminisce about old memories while creating new ones! Great for a Valentine’s Day retreat, or a weekend snow-in, you can watch lots of movies, read books, take bubble baths, and just enjoy time spent together.

Attend a concert or a sporting event. As we all know, Ohio’s weather can be unpredictable, so March is the perfect time to plan a spontaneous date night to an outside or indoor venue! Plan ahead and buy tickets to a concert at the House of Blues, or spontaneously attend a Cavs game! Enjoy your local high school’s soccer game or stop by a restaurant to see a live band play!

Take a Wine Tour in Geneva-on-the-Lake Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. Geneva is a beautiful, waterfront town in Northeast Ohio that is lined with wineries! The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake offers a bus tour that will take you to all the local wineries. With the temperatures rising in April, it’s the perfect time to sit outside, sample wine, and enjoy the views. Plus, there’s a ferris wheel! What could be more romantic?

Picnic in the park! The grass has finally dried after the snow melted away, and it’s time to enjoy the sunshine that has been hiding all winter! Stop by a park – nearby or in an area you haven’t yet explored – and enjoy the day together! A packed lunch and a blanket are all you need to make this day complete. You can people watch all day, work on planning the details of your wedding, or just bring a book or journal to enjoy the beautiful weather!

Visit the Cleveland Zoo or take a hike through one of the Metroparks’ reservations. When was the last time you wandered the zoo? Probably in elementary school when you went for class field trips! Recreate your childhood by experiencing the wildlife with your loved one! You can feed the giraffes, take selfies with monkeys, be surrounded by butterflies, and ride a carousel! It’s the perfect day-cation when you’re trying to save money for your honeymoon!

Rooftop Dinner in the city followed by dancing or a theater performance. Rooftops offer a spectacular view of the city. What better way to toast the months befor your marriage than under twinkly lights and with a delicious meal? Metropolitan at the 9 or Nuevo both offer gorgeous views and incredible cuisine in Cleveland, or stop by Nuevo’s Akron location for somewhere closer to home. Catch a theater performance or go dancing to end the night with a bang!

Drive-In movie! There is literally no better date night than a Drive-In movie under the stars! Fill your car with blankets and pillows, pack some of your favorite movie treats and drinks, and snuggle together as you watch a great film. The best part about drive-in theaters is that they show two films per ticket, and usually from different genres! Want to see a comedy? Drama? Thriller? Romance? Odds are, the theater is playing something you want to see. And Northeast Ohio has some of the only remaining drive-in’s in the country!

Take a cruise on the Nautica Queen.  Dancing with an all-you-can-eat buffet…can you think of anything better? Enjoy views of the Cleveland Skyline, The Flats, First Energy Stadium, and Lake Erie while dancing, chatting on the sundeck, or eating a great meal!

Take a train ride through the Cuyahoga Valley to see the beautiful changing leaves. The train stops at several stations, so explore new areas and find your new favorite restaurants at each stop! Who knew Ohio had such gorgeous scenery?

If you live in Northeast Ohio and haven’t visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, just…why? People visit from all over the country – even the world – to see these museums and you live right down the road! Spend the day museum hopping and enjoy the range of exhibits that Northeast Ohio has to offer – from art, to sports and science to rock & roll.

December marks the season for giving, so get your entire wedding party together to volunteer at a local pet rescue or soup kitchen. Or, arrange a toy drive, canned soup drive, book drive, or clothing drive with your guests, wedding party, or even just fiance to donate to local charities. There are a lot of people in Northeast Ohio who could use the help. Spread the love you’ve found with your fiance by volunteering your time!
