As Sweet As Pie | Serving Pie at your Wedding
Since many couples are choosing to have non-traditional wedding celebrations, it only makes sense that they would opt for sweet treats that also stray from the norm. Serving pie is one alternative to cake that will have your guests begging for more.
Pie is hearty, satisfying, and all-American. Traditionally served at Thanksgiving celebrations, having pie at your wedding will remind you of all you have to be thankful for. They are the perfect sweet treat to add to your dessert table or serve on its own! Check out some of our favorite wedding pie ideas below.
By the Slice
If you want to go for the traditional, serve pie by-the-slice! Order entire pies and having a bar with an assortment of flavors for guests to choose from! Don’t forget to offer whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and a variety of syrups for toppings!
Tiered
Instead of going horizontal on a table or bar, go vertical! Stack your pies in a tier or use a display to showcase them at different levels! This will make your pie-cutting ceremony more traditional, but with a fun twist!
Mini
Mini-pies may be one of our favorite ideas because you can do so much with them! Spread them out on a bar, display them on a tiered cake stand, offer them as favors, or adorn them with table numbers and use them as escort cards!
In a Jar
All the taste, none of the mess! Serving pie-in-a-jar means you know exactly how much pie to make or order. Plus, if you end up with leftovers, they’re way easier to store than a traditional pie. The only downside is the clean-up. Instead of tossing out foil pie tins like you would with the rest of the options, you’ll have to actually wash these jars once they’re used. To avoid this, tie them up with a ribbon or tag and give them away as favors!
Flavors
You really can’t go wrong with pie flavors, whether it’s fruity, rich, or nutty. Whether it’s topped with meringue, whipped cream, crumble, or crust, everyone knows that the filling is where it’s at. So how do you decide which flavor to choose? Go with your favorites! While we suggest having at least one pie from each flavor profile, remember that this is your wedding! Choose your favorite flavors and enjoy a slice of each!
Traditional
You can’t go wrong with a traditional pie, as those are crowd favorites. Think Pumpkin, Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, and Pecan. If you’re having pie at your wedding, it’s super important to hire a professional baker to supply them. They won’t use pre-made crusts or fillings, which will ensure your pies are fresh and taste like nectar of the gods.
Decadent
Flavors like Chocolate Silk and Banana Cream are reminiscent of traditional wedding cake flavors. Bring together the best of both worlds, you’ll still get the flaky crust of a pie but will indulge in the sweet richness of a creamy filling! You can even serve whoopie pies – yes! They’re technically pies, too! – in a variety of flavors. They’re perfect for eating while on the dance floor, as no fork is required!
Citrus
For a refreshing, palette-cleansing pie, offer flavors like Lemon Meringue, Key Lime, and Coconut Cream! Not only are they delicious, but we’ve heard they are calorie free! At least, that’s what we like to tell ourselves…
If you’re anything like us, you’re sitting at the Thanksgiving dinner table with a fork and an entire pie in your hand (who needs a plate?). If you’re not a fan of cake or you want to have more than pastries and cookies at your dessert table, consider adding pie! It’s a sweet treat that your guests are guaranteed to want seconds of.
