Evan & Katelyn – A DIY Lover’s Dream
Fact: You will cry all of the happy tears looking at Evan & Katelyn’s wedding! Not only was this super fun fete full of DIY projects done in the most elegant way, most importantly, it was full of smiles, laughter and love. Thankfully, The Bird & The Bear was on hand to capture all of the incredible details.
Wedding Colors: Blush, Peach & Purple Wedding Theme: DIY done elegantly & effortlessly (kind of)
From the bride: “Planning is awesome, but overwhelming at times — especially if you decide to be your own wedding planner. We took on a lot of DIY projects, and while the projects themselves were super fun, I stressed a lot about logistics: coordinating with vendors, assigning responsibilities to family members, planning transport of stuff, etc.
So I played out every single part of the day in my head and wrote down everything that needed to be brought/made/set-up. Then I made a mega-list of all these items and decided what I’d tackle myself and what I’d delegate to others.”
“We brought a U-haul and several cars full of stuff, so I had TONS of boxes to deal with. On each box, I labeled the contents inside, which person/vendor was responsible for setting it up, and where in the venue it went. Some boxes also got photos attached of how I wanted things to look. I might be a bit of a control freak…
The time it took to set things up was definitely underestimated. We allotted plenty of time and had lots of helping hands, but because the wind was CRAZY that morning lots of our decor had to be re-thought at the last minute.”
Advice from the bride: “As a soon-to-be bride, you’re probably going to try and take on more than you can handle. Be prepared to cut back. I realized this when I was considering buying cotton napkins and hand dipping each one in dye that matched our colors. Then I said to myself: ‘Are people gonna even care about the napkins? No! Do I care that much about the napkins? Definitely not!’ — and I dropped the project. Focus on what is important to you and what will make the day a blast.
Oh! I will say, if it’s in the budget, DEFINITELY get a great photographer and videographer! Even though the day goes by fast, you get to re-live it through photos and videos, and it’s awesome.”
