Three Wedding Decor Ideas for LGBTQ+ Couples
Pride Month may only be one month a year, but that doesn’t mean acknowledging and celebrating LGBTQ+ couples should end. After all, LGBTQ+ weddings are planned year-round, not just in the month of June! While many aspects of a wedding — from the vows to the cake cutting to the grand exit — stay the same regardless of who you’re marrying, there are many extra details that LGBTQ+ couples should consider when planning a wedding. One of those details is décor!
As an LGBTQ+ couple, you may want to walk down the aisle hand in hand, choose special readings at your ceremony, forego a bouquet/garter toss, or opt for gender-neutral wedding parties. Considering your décor is one more way to make your that your wedding day uniquely and perfectly, well, you!
Cake Toppers
When you think of cake toppers, your mind probably immediately goes to the porcelain figurines of a bride and groom. However, there are so many other cake topper options! You could do figurines of your favorite movie or book characters, a bouquet of flowers, a banner, or script words. Check out some of our favorite ideas in this blog!
Regardless of whether you decide to go the traditional route of having the figurines or a more modern approach, you’ll want it to be personalized to your relationship. Consider Mrs. & Mrs. in a golden script, two figures of dogs in tuxes, two peas in a pod, or even ambiguous silhouettes sitting on top of a rainbow!
Reception Seating
While the head table is usually distinguishable by being up front, in the center, or noticeably larger than the other tables, it’s important to distinguish which chairs are for you: the newlyweds! Some may decide to sit at the head of a king’s table, while others may have a sweetheart table just for them. Or, you may sit in a more traditional fashion with the couple in the middle and the wedding party on either side.
Drape signage over your chairs with a ribbon or twine saying “Mr. & Mr.,” “Reserved for the Brides,” or “The Happy Couple.” You could also get letters saying Mrs. and Mrs. or simply put a different color chair cover or sash on your chairs!
Signage
Signage is one of the most fun parts of choosing your wedding décor! You can make it funny and creative or functional and concise. Hire a handwritten calligraphy artist or use your Cricut for custom fonts. Showcase your rustic theme with antique wood, modern theme with transparent acrylic, or industrial theme with natural slate!
Besides the signs shown above, you can have signs for your menu, bar options, directions, timelines, or instructions. Have your hashtag sign near the photo booth or a welcome sign at the entrance with, “Ceremony here, reception there, love everywhere.” Our favorite might just be a colorful neon light with the words “Love Wins” over the head table.
You may be hoping to save some money by relying on the décor your venue space already supplies. However, we think there’s something special and personal about choosing décor that represents your relationship. Not only can you spend quality time shopping to find the items you love most, but you can re-purpose them by using them in your home after the wedding!
There are so many decorative elements that celebrate LGBTQ+ couples. We’ve barely scratched the surface! But we hope you find some inspiration in this gallery to start planning your dream wedding décor today.
