How to Celebrate Your Original Wedding Date
Over the past few months, many couples made the difficult decision to postpone their original wedding date due to COVID-19. If you were impacted, chances are that your original wedding date has gone from a day you couldn’t wait for to a day you dread. We at Today’s Bride believe that you can and SHOULD celebrate your original wedding date. If you’re looking for ways to mark your day, we have a few suggestions:
Slow dance with your partner to your first dance song
You chose your first dance song because it has sentimental value. That doesn’t change during a pandemic! Take a few minutes to dim the lights, light some candles, and crank your song up as loud as you can. By the way – if you haven’t picked a first dance song YET, play your top contenders back-to-back to see which one feels right, and dance the evening away.
Order Dinner from your wedding caterer
If you’re drooling thinking about the Chicken Francese you handpicked for your wedding dinner, you should still get to enjoy it on your original wedding day. See if your caterer offers pickup or delivery options, and get your wedding meal to-go. See if you can get flowers from your florist or dessert from your bakery of choice, too!

Smile for the camera (on your selfie stick)
Tell your partner to pick out their favorite outfit, and you do the same. These outfits can be sophisticated, silly, or something in between. Get dressed in different rooms, and do a “first look” outside! Take lots of silly pictures together. Wear false eyelashes. Do whatever makes you smile! Bonus points for incorporating COVID props, like rubber gloves, masks, and toilet paper. Laughing and making memories together is a great way to celebrate your original wedding date.
Buy a gift off your registry
Sometimes, all it takes is a delivery truck to lift your mood. Now is a great time to “treat yo’ self” with an item off your registry that you’ve been dreaming about since you added it to your list. From napkin rings to blenders, there is no gift to give yourself that is too small or large.
Host a virtual game night with your wedding party
Virtual parties have become all the rage during this period of physical distancing. Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime are great ways to stay connected with your closest friends. Play a virtual game together, like Scattegories or Cards Against Humanity, to keep the evening fun and friend-focused.
If you’d rather just veg out with your besties, tune in to a Netflix Party, where you can watch the same show at the same time as your friends. Watch hours of your favorite sappy RomComs, binge some reality TV, or check out that new documentary you’ve been dying to see. As a result, your spirits will be lifted by the presence of your closest friends.
You deserve to feel every one of your emotions on this day – sadness, confusion, frustration… but also, happiness, warmth, and the ability to celebrate your love story. After all, you two are still a perfect pair. Even if your wedding has been delayed, your love story is irreplaceable.
