2019 Wedding Flower Trends
“The flowers in your wedding bouquet should be based on your personal preference, not popularity,” Elena from Elena’s Flowers says. We heartily agree! But if you’re looking for the most requested colors, fillers, and flower trends of 2019, we’ve talked to the experts to get all the details.
Popular Flowers
Garden Roses
Peonies are super popular for weddings, but they’re only available for a few months out of the year. For a similar look, go with garden roses! You’ll get a wonderful smell without the ants. Plus, they come in a variety of colors.

Dahlias
Like peonies, dahlias are only available for a few months out of the year – late summer into early fall. Their large shape and textured petals definitely make a statement and are a must-have in this year’s bouquets.
Ranunculus
“My favorite flower to design with is ranunculus,” says Stephanie from Pretty Paper Petal. The ranunculus blooms in a variety of shades and gives texture to any bouquet. “Its beautiful life cycle is just as stunning from new bloom to open matured petals.”
Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are a classic wedding flower that will never go out-of-style. They come in a selection of colors and are perfect as a filler or on their own. Because of their large volume and lower price, they are perfect for creating larger displays.
Peonies
Peonies are the bride favorite right now. Their big blooms are super romantic, and the blushing pink color is on trend with the hottest wedding palettes. Peonies are the perfect flowers for the modern, romantic, traditional, or industrial bride – it’s so versatile! However, it’s only available in the spring and early summer.
Sunflowers
Available in August and September, Sunflowers are the ultimate flower for a summer barn wedding. “You’d be surprised how many brides ask for them and how versatile they can be when paired with different accent flowers,” says Stephanie from Pretty Paper Petal.
Anemone
Want something different and over-the-top? Check out the anemone! They are most popular in white, purple, and red, and you’ll recognize them by their signature black center. We recommend throwing in one or two stems for maximum dramatic impact.
Filler Flowers
Filler flowers are all those that you don’t know the names of. They’re also the flowers that add texture and height to your bouquet. “If it weren’t for stems like stock flowers, a bouquet would be perfectly round and symmetrical,” Nikki from Nikki’s Perfect Petal Designs says. Plus, according to both Nikki and Elena, they typically smell divine!

Colors
Though most flowers come in a variety of colors, it’s important to share your color scheme with your florist. That way, he or she can order a range of shades in the flowers you love most!
“Right now, we’re getting a lot of requests for burgundy and blush. That seems to be the huge trend with brides this year,” Nikki from Nikki’s Perfect Petals says. “Once we know your color scheme, we can make recommendations on which flowers will work best!”
“What I love about what I do with paper flowers is nothing is ever out of season and we never have color restrictions!” says Stephanie from Pretty Paper Petals. Blue roses, white sunflowers, and yellow peonies are available whenever!
Besides burgundy and blush, cream and white with greenery is a bride favorite color scheme, as it’s classic and traditional. Modern brides love Pantone’s color of the year – Living Coral – with shades of coral, orange, peach, and yellow. Edgy brides are opting for muted color schemes like red, deep plum, dark green, and accents of thistle fillers.
