MarriageLicenseBasics If you’re an Ohio resident, apply for your marriage license in the county you live in, not the county in which you’ll be getting married. For out-of-state residents, apply in the county where your ceremony will take place. Because some counties have a waiting period or slow turn-around, you should apply a few weeks early. Not too early, though; if a license is not used within 60 days, it will expire. Once you have signed your license, your Offi- ciant will be a witness and then send it to the Marriage License Bureau to be authorized. You should request at least three certified copies (raised seal) to change your name.
